The McLintocks Golf Trip – another memorable year!
The annual (some say infamous) McLintocks golf trip to Marbella recently took place. It started as usual with a drop of Guinness at the airport which made everyone surprisingly chatty on the plane. Due to Mike Caputo’s meticulous planning skills (must be the auditor in him!) the flights and cars got us to La Cala on time for the first of our 4 games.
Celebrity singer Cole Page took the honours with a steady though eventful round over a ‘shortish’ but interesting course. With no time to waste, it was into Marbella for an Indian banquet and out on the town. David Mann must have wondered what he had committed to!
Come Friday morning only 6 of the 8 made it to La Quinta , where we were treated like royalty. Mike managed to find every patch of water there was and Neil Chaddock was only one over gross on the back nine, so contrasting fortunes. After a beer and a club sandwich, we were back out on the town – for a romantic meal overlooking the sea!
Saturday morning then and still only 6 made it and off to Los Flamingos where Neil made a somewhat dramatic entrance to the palatial complex. All teed off but team Mike, Neil and John Curtis fared badly , though Mike did surprisingly get better as the others deteriorated around him. Ian Thomas in the other group excelled.
More beer and club sandwiches, back to Marbella, Italian meal and ‘clubland’ again – clearly a theme for holiday!
Cole was christened from above by a low flying condor so had to buy a new shirt.
Sunday and last day – all 8 of us actually made it; though Dylan Jones, left most of his clothes in the hotel after hastily checking out!
The final venue was Los Arqueros with Ian 6 points clear of Mike and Steve. All three had decent rounds with Ian winning the prizes, with Steve Boyd second and Mike a credible third.
Here’s to next year!
